Name: Sparda; The Legendary Dark Knight
Age: Appears to be in his late thirties to mid forties.
Race: Devil
Physical Appearance:

Sparda stands at a height two to three inches taller than his sons and slightly broader of shoulder. His eyes are a lighter hue; piercing as the cold from a frozen glacier. His hair is kept swept back and trimmed shorter than either son's, but is the same color. His outfit will vary; first sightings may be in the above outfit, but as he becomes re-accustomed to the habits of modern-day humanity, his style will change.
Personality:
History recounts Sparda as being brave, honorable, noble, selfless, and wise; rebellious as Dante, with Vergil's level-headedness. These depictions are all true. Sparda is a man of his word, kind of heart and noble in deed. He recognized the evil being done to humankind at the hand of Mundus, and when the time was right, stood up for them.
Relations:
Father of Dante – Estranged.
Father of Vergil – Estranged.
Husband to Eva, now deceased.
History:
During his time as one of Mundus's generals, Sparda gained the reputation of being the most powerful demon swordsman in Hell. He mentored twins Baul and Modeus, entrusting Modeus with his teachings due to his compassionate nature. Shortly before he rebelled against Mundus, he made a pact with the twins – that they would live true to their aspirations.
Two thousand years ago, Sparda rebelled against Mundus for the atrocities he had committed against the humans, and to prevent humanity from meeting total annihilation at the hands of the Emperor of Darkness. Single-handedly, Sparda defeated Mundus's army and Mundus himself. He sealed the Emperor away in a marble vault. Using a large portion of his power and various objects of channeling, he sealed away the gates to Hell (the Temen-Ni-Gru with his namesake sword, his blood, his pendant, and the blood of a human priestess, in what is now the Border City, and the Path to Hell with his blood and Yamato in what is now Fortuna), and reigned over humanity for a time.
His disappearance, much like most of the knowledge about him, is shrouded in mystery. During his time out of the spotlight, it is thought that he performed many thankless acts of heroism to protect humanity from the demonic realm. He fought alongside the Vie de Marli clan during this time as well. Nearer the twentieth century, the sealing of both demonic gateways had begun to take a toll on Sparda. His once limitless lifespan had found a limit; continuing to fight as he once had in youth was quickening the sands of time.
He resurfaced in the twentieth century, when the hands of time as well as the beauty of a certain human woman bewitched him. Sparda and Eva fell madly in love, having two twin sons. Not naïve enough to think that Mundus's forces would be above harming his wife and children to gain vengeance for his betrayal, Sparda disappeared after the twins were born, bidding Eva give them each one half of his pendant, as well as one of his swords. To Dante, Rebellion was bequeathed; as was Yamato to Vergil.
Over the next few years, Sparda fought off the armies of Mundus behind the scenes, keeping them clear of his young family with whom he wished he could spend his last days. He lost his final battle in the twins' fourth year, thought to have been slain by Mundus's henchmen. Four years later, Mundus's armies found Eva and the boys. Eva hid both boys separately, begging them not to come out, no matter what, until the demons had gone.
Sparda, thought dead, lie dormant in his final resting place, where he would have lain for all of eternity, had the seals upon Temen Ni Gru and the Fortuna Hell Gate remained untouched...
Sample Post:
Of all the things he had imagined death to be, peaceful was not one of them. It was almost as though the weary hell-knight had been dreaming. How long had it been? A year? A decade? A century? Perhaps a millennium? Time seemed irrelevant in this fever-dream that was death. He drifted often to Eva, his beautiful wife. His sons, Dante and Vergil… what must they look like now? He may never know, but the thought didn't bother him overly much.
Then one day, the nightmares came. Visions of the Temen Ni Gru rising from its depths, shattering the now-bustling city that was built upon it. Demons pouring from within, devouring helpless humans. His sons at odds, fighting one another to the death within that hellish place. All of this accompanied by a sensation of fire in his forearm, along the line of the scar that he inflicted when sealing Temen Ni Gru.
After a time the nightmares faded, and the fever-dream resumed. Shortly after, he began to have nightmares centered around the hellgate. Much like the nightmares of the Temen Ni Gru, the nightmares of the now castle-city plagued him for what seemed like an eternity, as did the burning sensations in both arms. As the nightmares passed, the Legendary Dark Knight opened his eyes for the first time in a long time.
Deep, peaceful breaths were replaced with shallow gasps. As his vision cleared, he realized that he had been asleep – for how long, the man did not know. The pain in his arms faded as his once-legendary strength coursed through his body again, freed and returned to him somehow.
For all his strength, it took Sparda a few moments to regain control over his motion. He sat up, brushing his now-unruly mane out of his face. He didn't know how long he had been asleep, nor did he know the state of affairs in the human world. The only thing he knew was that he wanted to go back. Once able to stand and walk, he moved as fast as his body would allow him to move toward the nearest point of entry into the human world.
